Obituary

Robert J. Ackerman, 91, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Montrose VA Nursing Home in Montrose, NY. Born in Bronx, NY on August 10, 1927, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Lillian Gately Ackerman. Robert served with the US Navy during World War II and again during the Korean War. He worked for Western Union International in NYC as a Telegram Operator. On June 15, 1957, he married the love of his life, Margaret Robertson, at the Dayspring Presbyterian Church in Yonkers, NY, she predeceased Robert on February 6, 2008. Robert was member of the Amackassin Tennis Club and the American Legion Alan Waite Post, both in Yonkers, NY. He will always be remembered by his family as a loving Father and Grandfather and an avid golfer, tennis player and his love for historical reading.

Robert is survived by his son George and his wife Patricia of Bedford Hills, NY, and daughter Gail Koob and her husband Peter of Poughkeepsie, NY. Also surviving is his brother Fred Ackerman of Cortlandt Manor, NY, sister Lorraine Bryant of Daytona Beach, Florida, Grandchildren Heather, James and Laura Koob, Kevin and Lauren Ackerman, and several nieces and nephews.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Robert's name to the Alzheimer's Association or the Montrose VA Nursing Home.
