Obituary for Richard C. "Dick" Mullen

Richard (Dick) C. Mullen, 92 of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. entered peaceably into eternal rest on Friday, January 14, 2022, at home with loving family at his side.
Jesus came and reached out his hand to yours to embrace you and give you your wings, He guided you to Heaven to be with the Love of your Life “Catherine”, along with waiting Family and Friends that have passed away before you, in life.
Richard was the son of the late William and Agnes (DeVine) Mullen, he was born on February 18, 1929, at home in New Hamburg N.Y...
Upon receiving his education in the Wappingers Central Schools, on March 7th, 1946, Richard joined the United States Navy. He attended Boot Camp at Camp Peary, Williamsburg, Va., He was later assigned to Manicani in the Philippines, then transferred to the U.S.S. Repose a hospital ship in the Pacific.
On December 23rd, 1948, in San Francisco, California he was Honorably Discharged with a World War II Victory Medal.
On Sunday, April 29th, 1984, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie N.Y. he married the Love of his Life Catherine (Killmer) Chumbres of Poughkeepsie N.Y. Catherine predeceased him on January 4th, 2021. The Ceremony was officiated by the late Rev. Jan Jacmierski.
Richard was employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. retiring in 1970 after 35 years of service. He was a Life member of the Pirate Canoe Club and a Life member of The Knights of Columbus in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
Richard and Catherine enjoyed their life together spending time with family and enjoyed traveling. On their trip to Cana in Galilee, Jerusalem on September 18th, 1994, they renewed their wedding vows, the ceremony was performed by their Spiritual Guide Rev. Felix Mara. On their two trips to Rome, Italy, they had gotten the chance to meet his Holiness Saint Pope John Paul II, this was a true Blessing for them and something that they both treasured with all their Hearts. When not traveling you might see them both on the Hudson River on their boat “The Kasha”.
Richard is survived by his sister Barbara (Judy) Vitek of Beacon, N.Y., his stepson Thomas (Chub) Chumbres Jr. (Michael Corum) of California, His loving Cats: BB, Kelly and Mona also several loving Nieces and Nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Agnes Tully of Florida, Vivian Trahn of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Teresa McNair of Newburgh, N.Y., His brothers William Mullen of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Robert Mullen of New Hamburg, N.Y. He was also predeceased by his first wife Joan Sanders of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

Calling Hours will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 8:15am – 9:15am at the Funeral Home, A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 95 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 followed by internment at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, 40 Evergreen Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
