Obituary for Paul J. Shanley

Paul J. Shanley, 90 of Poughkeepsie, NY was called home to the Lord January 30, 2022, at home of natural causes. Paul was born in Troy, NY on November 24, 1931, to Francis K. Shanley and Claire Ketrick Shanley. Paul was the second oldest of nine children. Paul was predeceased by his parents, sister Claire Mickerelli, brother Francis Shanley, brother Timothy Shanley, and children twin babies John and Christopher. He is survived by his sister Ellen Brady of Basking Ridge, NJ, sister Pat (Carl) Flood of Glens Falls, NY, brother Thomas (Nancy) Shanley of Myrtle Beach S.C., brother William (Linda) Shanley of Hudson Falls, NY., brother Larry (Marcia) Shanley of Peru, NY. He is also survived by his children Michael Shanley of Poughkeepsie, NY, Maureen (Michael) Steckley of Carrolton, TX, Matthew (Susan) Shanley of New York City and Stephen (Deena) Shanley of Poughkeepsie, NY. As well as 12 grandchildren; Christina Ann Shanley Tice (Douglas), Amber Korn, Caitlin Shanley, Briana Shanley, Jordan Shanley, Owen Shanley, Austin Shanley, Maya Shanley, Dakota Shanley, Kieran Steckley, Aiden Steckley, and Liam Steckley. Great-grandchildren Jared Milani, Josiah Williams, Jaylene Shanley, Aaliyah and Aariah Shanley-Blackman and Chloe Jones and several nieces and nephews. Paul served during the Korean conflict in the army from 1951 to 1954 and earned the rank of Sergeant. He attended Hudson Valley Technical Institute in Troy, NY where he earned his Associates Degree in electrical technology. He married Janet Misasi Shanley of Glasco, NY on August 2, 1958; she survives at home. Paul worked for AT&T and then IBM for 35 years and retired in 1993. In retirement Paul worked for M&T bank, CRS Tire/Mavis Tire and Healy Brothers. Paul was an avid reader of history and politics. He loved vacationing at the shores of Myrtle Beach South Carolina and Sea Isle City New Jersey. Paul was a member of the Pirate Canoe Club in Poughkeepsie, NY. He enjoyed bowling in the IBM league at Hoe Bowl on Taft Ave for over 40 years. He was a sports fan of the New York Yankees, in football the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the New York Knicks. He was a parishioner of Saint Martin de Porres for 60 years and was a devout Catholic.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Martin de Porres Church 118 Cedar Valley Rd Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 on Saturday February 5, 2022 at 11AM with burial to follow in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery Poughkeepsie, NY.
