Obituary for Mildred "Dottie" Hoff

Mildred (Dottie) Bernadette Hoff, 103, of Poughkeepsie, New York passed away on January 28, 2021. Dottie was born on June 13, 1917. Daughter of her loving mother, Mildred Card, sister to her brothers Bennett, Edward, John, Charles and baby sister Barbara & wife of Frederick J; all sadly deceased. Mother to Stephen Zane, (Lisa), Bruce Douglas (Ellen) & daughter Tracy Ellen (deceased), grandmother to Demian (Nikki), Stephen Jr., Claire, Alex & Charlotte Great grandmother (Gigi) to Cory & Jenna, friend to her many cousins, nieces, & nephews.
"Dottie", as most knew her, graduated from New Paltz high school, before becoming a registered nurse, class 1939 from Hudson River State Hospital. She went back to Columbia University, NYC, and graduated with a Masters degree in nursing where she was instrumental in formulating the curriculum where all nursing students were taught to become highly proficient in their profession. After retiring, she was highly sought after to speak at nursing symposiums, always keeping nursing as her number one priority. Hudson River State Hospital Museum dedicated a room in Dottie's name for pioneering the nursing program where she taught at Dutchess Community college till her retirement.
Later, she and Fritz would travel around the USA in their Winnebago. After Fritz past, she traveled with her daughter Tracy to Europe & Egypt with side trips to Bermuda. Dottie was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Manwenawasigh Chapter, for many of her 103 years where she formed lasting bonds with her fellow revolutionaries. Always a leader, ever independent, she lived life to the fullest, enjoying golfing & socializing. Even in her waning years she was always a joy to be around and her sense of humor never left till the day she died. Love you mom.
There will be no services. Dottie's resting place is beside her loving husband, Fritz, at the Rural Cemetery in Poughkeepsie, New York.
