Mary Durham, age 96 died November 24, 2021. Born in Tuxedo, New York, she was a beloved former resident of St. Simeon.
She is survived by her son, Michael Durham (Houston, Texas), her daughter, Leslie Durham (Winchester Virginia), her granddaughters Charlotte, Kate, and Sara, as well as her sister, Barbara Boncek and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Her forty-year work career was spent as a metallurgical technician for two major corporations, a geophysical draftsman for three oil companies, and a university, and working with county and federal government in the environmental field.
She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and Denver and was married and had her children in Colorado. After a divorce, she returned east to raise her children, continue work, and complete her BA in Environmental Studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
She lived at St. Simeon where she enjoyed walks with friends and her hobbies poetry, photography, and painting. She enjoyed reading at the Spoken Word Café at the Unitarian Fellowship with fellow writers. She self-published a book of poetry A Sometime Poet in 2009. She wishes to be remembered as a mother, grandmother and sometimes poet. Please plant something in her memory.
