Margaret (Maggie) Verrotti passed away January 23, 2020 at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY at the age of 90, and left behind a lifetime of caring and service to others. Many thanks to the staff at Lutheran Care for their extraordinary compassion and competence.
Born the youngest of eight children on June 6,1929 to Italian immigrant parents, Camillo Verrotti and Josephine Trabucco, Maggie and her seven siblings were lifelong residents of Poughkeepsie. She was predeceased by her five sisters and two brothers and is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She worked at various occupations including art checker for Western Publishing Co., nurse’s aid at Saint Francis Hospital, and bus driver for special needs children for the Arlington School system. Feisty and generous to a fault, she carved a life for herself notable for her hard work, independent spirit and irreverent humor. Her greatest joy in life was helping family and friends to flourish, and she had an incomparable gift for caregiving.
There will be a mass in her name on June 4 at 12 noon at the Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Poughkeepsie, and a cremation and burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie in the spring. Donations in her name can be made to Friends of Seniors of Dutchess County and the SPCA in Hyde Park..
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. If you wish to send an online condolence please visit our website at

Our condolences to the family of Maggie Verrotti on her passing. We have known her for the past 18 + years and enjoyed every minute of it. Her humor was undescribable but it was her friendliness that stood out. She always greeted us (and all residents) whenever she saw us, from the time we first met her formally after a community meeting she attended along with Helen S. right up until the last time we talked with her last fall. She seemed to enjoy immensely her riding around the community on her bike after she stopped driving her car. She will be missed by all. May she rest in peace.
