Lillian S. Maserjian of the Town of Poughkeepsie and Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away peacefully with family at her side on March 26, 2020, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born Lillian Sulahian in 1934 and raised in Queens, New York, she married Amedee Maserjian in 1956 in NYC, and then relocated to Poughkeepsie. Lil, Lily or Diamond Lil, as she was called, was a lively person, with a light-up-the-room smile. A homemaker, family was very important to her; she was a loving and supportive mother who with Amedee raised five children. Lil was also active in her community, she was a member of St Martin DePorres Church, the Marion Guild of St. Francis Hospital (Past -President), and the Mid-Hudson Armenian Club. Her optimistic outlook, quick wit and easy laughter were contagious to all who knew her. Always the stylish dresser, Lil didn’t leave the house without her lipstick on, hair coiffed and jewelry sparkling.
An avid sports enthusiast, Lil passionately enjoyed tennis, golf and skiing. Indoors she proved her self a worthy opponent to even the most skilled players of backgammon and cards. Crossword puzzles, solitaire, dining out, movies and sewing were just some of her many additional interests. Lil was also known to turn shopping into a meaningful art. It was not uncommon for her to learn the names and stories of every salesperson or cashier she met along the way, often making in indelible impact with her positive energy as she effortlessly brought smiles to the faces. Never overlooking friends or family, Lil often insisted on taking anyone in need on her shopping excursions to cheer them up, help them find whatever they needed, or to assist those with physical challenges.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, Lil was predeceased by her parents Levon and Alice Sulahian, sister Jane Avedis and two nephews. She is survived by her 5 children John (Gina) Maserjian of Poughkeepsie, Dawn (Bob) O’Shea of Hyde Park, Karen (Mark) Shan of Poughkeepsie, Susan Maserjian and Steven Maserjian both of Manhattan. Lil also is survived by 5 grandchildren, Jason, Douglas (Grace), Kelsy O’Shea, and Jared and Cloe Shan, and one great-granddaughter, Jane O’Shea. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and countless groups of amazing close knit friends in New York and Florida.
A private family service will be held under the direction William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home of Poughkeepsie with burial at St. Peters Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date due to the current circumstances.

I will always remember Mrs. Maserjian's vivacious spirit, zest for life, her sense of spunk and adventure, and her warm, generous nature. One of the funniest memories I have is of Mrs. Maserjian as our getaway driver on our apple "picking" expedition. She drove the station wagon through an apple orchard, stopped the car, and my sisters and I, Susan and Steven, all darted out quickly picking apples off trees as fast as we could and bolted back into the vehicle. With Lily at the wheel, we abruptly accelerated and fled the scene without a trace. I always enjoyed going over to the Maserjians house and seeing what new fashionable dress Lily was making in the sewing room or what new decorating project she was undertaking. As a young girl, I was intrigued with her sense of pizazz in the things she created. I can only imagine the parties she is throwing now and I wouldn't be surprised if she is beadazzling the stars in heaven!

To the Maserjian Family,
My deepest sympathy for your loss. My special friendship with "Diamond Lil" started 50+ years ago on a tennis court. I will cherish my memories of playing tennis, golf, skiing, shopping and lunches with her. I will miss her ready smile and upbeat personality.
