It is with great sadness we share, on October 14, 2022, Jacqueline “Jackie” Burger grew too tired to endure Early Onset Alzheimer’s, after a nearly five-year journey with this ferocious disease.
Jackie was a beautiful woman and quite a character. Her personality ran the gamut from silly to fierce. We all had a unique experience with Jackie. Her family and friends will tell you she was a protector, who said it like it was but always told the truth.
Born on the Jersey coast in September 1965, her family moved to Dutchess County when she was a child and she attended school in the Arlington School District.
Jackie was employed as a Dispatcher for the Town of Poughkeepsie Police for 20 years. She then moved to a clerical position with Dutchess County Water & Waste Water Authority, so she could spend more time with her son. After about ten years, Alzheimer’s unknowingly began to set in, and Jackie had to leave her job.
In January of 2022, Jackie moved to Middleburgh, New York to be cared for by her mother and sister, calling where they lived “our home.” Although there is a critical shortage of caregivers, within days we were blessed with Tina, Jen, and Tammy, who we refer to as our angels.
The community of Middleburgh deserves mention as they have been compassionate, kind, and helpful in every way—strangers on the street in a time of need, new neighbors, and those working on behalf of community agencies and local resources. The Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corp, staff at Cobleskill Hospital Emergency Room and Little Falls Hospital have been golden. Because of Jackie we have made many new, dear friends.
We could not have gotten through this without the support of these friends and especially Jackie’s faithful friends Michael, Ray, Julie, and Jeannie.
Jackie is survived by her husband Bob; son Braeden; mother Joyce McCaffery; sister Holly (Benny) Rosado; nephew Matthew Shaw; aunt Phyllis Stone, and Jackie’s “Special Uncle Jerry” Ion.
Jackie’s wish was to be cremated. Visiting hours will be held at the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York 12603 on the evening of October 19, 2022, from 5PM-8PM, with a sharing of memories at 7PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc. If you wish to send an online condolence, please visit our website at www.wmgmillerfuneralhome.com
