Obituary for Irene J. Stokrocki

Irene Jeanette Stokrocki, 94, of Brick, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 1, 2023.

Irene was born January 29, 1928. Her parents, Stanislaw Kardas and Anna Koltarz, settled down in Poughkeepsie, New York, where they raised Irene along with her siblings Benjamin, Francis, Theodora, John, Helen, Edmund, Stanley, Anna, and Leonard. Being the youngest of ten, Irene was blessed with a large family filled with love, laughter, and tradition.

On July 20, 1947, Irene married the love of her life Henry Stokrocki Sr. at St. Joseph’s Church. The reception was held at the Polish American Citizens Club in Poughkeepsie. Irene and Henry built a life together along with their extended families and friends. In August 1948, they welcomed their son, Henry Stokrocki Jr.

Irene was a skilled woman who worked for a private investigator, the Forbes Business Agency, and the County Clerk's Office as a property tax collector. Her favorite job, however, was working with her church. Volunteering was a passion for Irene and Henry. They were devout Catholics who donated their time and hearts to St. Joseph’s Parish. Irene served as the Director of The Altar Society where she would prepare the altar for each Mass, making sure the linens were cleaned and pressed and the church was decorated for holidays. She prepared meals during feasts and served as the Secretary on the 100 Years Celebration Committee to honor St. Joseph’s centennial birthday.

In her spare time, Irene enjoyed cooking, gardening, entertaining, and most of all spending time with family and friends, especially her grandson Joshua. The family enjoyed yearly trips to Vermont in the summer where they spent countless hours relaxing, laughing and loving one another. Irene and Henry eventually moved from Poughkeepsie, New York to Brick, New Jersey so they could be closer to their son, Henry Jr. and grandson, Joshua.

Loyal. Loving. Supportive. We are forever grateful to have had the gift of knowing, loving, and admiring Irene. Euripides wrote, “The greatest pleasure of life is love.” Irene Stokrocki lived a long life filled with “love” and we are all blessed she shared it with us.

Irene is survived by her son, Henry Stokrocki Jr. and partner Larisa Shetsen; grandson, Joshua Stokrocki; granddaughter-in-law, Jamie Stokrocki; great-grandson, Blake Stokrocki; great-granddaughter Lucia Stokrocki; predeceased by her daughter-in-law Jane Carlos Stokrocki; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The viewing will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 pm at William G. Miller and Son Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.

Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Parish, 9 Lafayette Place, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
