Obituary for Gloria Shano

Gloria Diane Shano passed away on Sunday, March 13th, lovingly surrounded by her children Jeanne, Joanne and Laura and grandchildren, Julie, Lisa and Susan.

'Flo' as she was affectionately known by, unconditionally and unselfishly loved her children and supported them all through the many joys and difficulties of their lives. She made her whole family laugh with her outrageous and exaggerated facial expressions, and all her silly sayings. She was kind, generous and compassionate. Even in those rare times she spoke in anger, she was often the first to apologize and to try to heal what was broken.

Fiercely independent and private, Gloria loved her entire family to a fault, often neglecting the needs of herself for the well-being and happiness of her many friends and family. She worried about them, supported them, protected them, forgave them, and always kept loving them unconditionally.
Gloria cared deeply for all who lived around her and she would do all that she could to help them out. She was a member of the Union Local #1199 Hospital Workers and the Local C.S.E.A. Gloria enjoyed gambling at FoxWoods, Mohegan Sun and Atlantic City.

To say that her family and friends will miss her greatly is an understatement. She wished to be remembered as a hard working, loving mother and grandmother, and a loyal, unselfish friend.
Predeceased by her husband, Albert, her cherished granddaughter, Linda, and her beloved sister, Adeline Gilmartin. Gloria is survived by her three daughters: Jeanne Pulllis and her husband, George; Joanne Fernandez and her husband, Richard, and Laura Shano; her two sons, Robert Shano and his wife, Aida, and John Shano, and her treasured grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Poughkeepsie Hospice: https://www.hvhospice.org/donate-now/.

At her request, there will be no funeral by her immediate family. A memorial service will be held at 10A.M. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 97 Mill Street Poughkeepsie, 12601, where Gloria passionately practiced her faith. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc. If you wish to send an online condolence, please visit our website at www.wmgmillerfuneralhome.com
