Estelle “Esther” Levine (nee Lapiner) passed away peacefully on December 15, 2020 at her home in Boca Raton, Florida, with her son Ed by her side. Her husband Murray Levine of the French Boot Shop predeceased her on May 29, 2016. She was a resident of Poughkeepsie for over 60 years.
Daughter of Harry and Anna Lapiner, Esther was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on February 18,1931, where she grew up and graduated near the top of her class from New Utrecht High School. She studied 2 years at Brooklyn College and then worked as a bookkeeper for a clothing manufacturer on Broome St. in Manhattan, she loved fashion.
On November 11, 1951, she married Murray Levine. She is survived by her two children, Gary Levine (wife Susan), Edward Levine (wife Anne), grandchild, Daniel Htoo-Levine (wife Kathyrn), and great grandson, Hudson.
Esther enjoyed tennis, playing cards and crossword puzzles. She was graceful at Latin Dance, especially the mambo, cha-cha, and merengue, and never missed “Dancing with the Stars”. She was a devoted viewer of “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune”. She loved old movies, musicals, Broadway plays and showtunes. She played piano and had a good singing voice. Even late in life she could sing songs of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s word for word.
Esther was very family oriented and never missed a family event, she loved her family and friends dearly. She was smart and witty and had a great sense of humor. When picking out a quote for her husband’s footstone, she jokingly said she wanted hers to say, “coming soon”. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
