Obituary

Erna Emilie Titone (née Obringer), born August 12, 1925 in Hagondange Lorraine, France, passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.
Erna had a long and interesting life. As a young adult, Erna worked in a French hospital during World War II. When the liberating American Army arrived in France, Erna met and married her husband of 67 years, Vincent (Jim) Titone, who predeceased her in 2012.
In 1946, Erna left France to join her husband in Brooklyn, NY where she worked in the garment industry and welcomed three children, Pierrette, Michael and Vincent. The family moved to Milton, NY in 1961. Erna worked as a supervisor at Countess Mara in Highland and concluded her working career at Central Hudson. After 25 years in the Hudson Valley, she and Jim retired to Florida, and enjoyed over 20 years in the Sunshine State. After losing Jim, Erna returned to the Hudson Valley to live with her daughter. These were truly her golden years.
Erna was a very talented woman who spoke four languages. Throughout her life, she brought family and friends together to enjoy culinary creations such as apple strudel, German potato salad and homemade pizza, to name a few. Erna could knit and crochet beautifully, and some of her pieces were featured and sold at a local historic site. In retirement, her passion was Bingo with her “Bingo buddies,” Jo in Florida and Dawn in Poughkeepsie.
Erna is survived by her daughter, Pierrette Ruhland, sons Michael (Jennette) and Vincent Titone, grandchildren Christina (David ) Hawkinson, John (Stephanie) Ruhland, James Titone, Brianna Titone and Shane Fern, and great grandchildren Connor Ruhland, Eric Hawkinson, Carson and Cassidy Ruhland, and many nieces and nephews both in the US and France.
The family would like to thank Kaneen Reed, Erna’s caregiver, and the doctors and staff at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital and Hudson Valley Hospice for their excellent care. We would also like to thank all of Erna’s friends who have shared their love and lent support.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will held Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 10AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Church, 185 Hudson View Dr., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice or the Dutchess County SPCA. Dear Mrs. Titone's family, my deepest, heart felt condolences on the loss of this lovely, friendly & kind woman. She and Pierrette would come to HP farmers market occasionally and she would be so friendly and smiling. Her presence and Pierrette's would bring an automatic smile to my face. I was so very glad to see and visit with them. She had a full and wonderful life. May she rest in peace. Sincerely Richard Fino

Erna you have touched our lives from the time you came to live with your daughter. We celebrated several birthdays of your nineties and you never seemed to grow older. Always active and cheerful and you cooked things we never knew could be eaten. Thank you Erna. We will miss you.
Pierette, your mother will live on in your memory. She is not gone. GOD has called her to his Kingdom. God Bless You.
