Eleanor Ruth Wagner, 97, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital. Eleanor was the sixth child of Charles “Heine” Wagner and Martha Hahn. She was extremely proud of her father who was a member of the Boston Red Sox and played in their first 4 World Series victories and later managed the team. Needless to say, she was a lifelong baseball fan.
Eleanor worked for Bloomingdales for over 45 years. Her entire life she was an avid reader and enjoyed a wide variety of books. Her recent interests ranged from fictional best sellers to learning more about the United States Government. In recent years she had taken up coloring. She took pride in her work, displaying her creations around her home and sharing them with her loved ones.
Family was everything to Eleanor. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary or holiday and you could always expect a card a few days before the special day. She had an incredible memory and recently was assisting in working on her family tree.
She is survived by her nieces; Eileen Palmieri of Poughkeepsie, NY, who was more like a daughter to her, Barbara Rapke (David) of Ava, NY, Nancy Chiudina of Mahopac, NY, her nephew Charles Wagner of New Rochelle, NY and many other nieces and nephews. She had a special relationship with her grand nieces Nicole Palmieri and Kristen Selvaggio (Paul). Her parents, siblings and favorite nephew, Bob, predeceased her.
Eleanor was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Martin de Porres Church. The family would like to thank Deacon Jim for bringing her communion every week and Father Abraham for all the spiritual guidance he gave her.
The family would also like to thank to her “helper” Chris, who Eleanor said she could not manage without and the hospital staff who treated her like family, when her family was unable to be there due to the current restrictions.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM on October 30, 2020 at St. Marin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY. 12603. To honor her memory, donations can be made to: The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation 2361 Hylan Blvd Staten Island, NY 10306 or EWTN Catholic Television Network5817 Old Leeds Rd.
