Eleanor “Jean” Moran of Pleasant Valley, NY passed away peacefully on September 14, 2020 at Rosary Hill Home, Hawthorne, NY. She was born November 10, 1935 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Her parents were Hermon and Dorothy (Blodgett) Claydon of Greenfield Center, NY. where their family home was.
Jean graduated from Saratoga High School in 1953 and then went on to attend Vassar Brothers Hospital School of Nursing in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she graduated in 1956 and received her R.N. degree.

She met her husband Richard Moran in Poughkeepsie as a nursing student, and they married in 1957 in Greenfield Center, NY at the Methodist church. They lived in Niagara Falls, NY while Richard was finishing his time in the U.S. Army there. Jean worked at the Niagara Falls Hospital at that time. They moved back to Poughkeepsie where she worked at Vassar Hospital, then raising her 2 young daughters while her nursing career continued at Vassar. Over the years her career took new paths, one which was the Poughkeepsie Children’s Home as supervising R.N. (which tugged on her heartstrings), then on to Hyde Park Nursing Home (supervising R.N.), Allstate Homecare as instructor & field supervisor, and retired in 1997 from the Dutchess County Health Dept. after 10 years as a visiting nurse with many stories to tell! She was a long time member of Vassar Bros. Hospital Nurses Association. Through her retirement years the “Nurse” in her never rested... she became the constant “diagnoser” to those around her!

After 50 years of marriage, Richard pre-deceased her in 2007. Also her siblings David (& Dylia) Claydon, Marilyn Claydon, Polly (& Paul) Banach, Patricia (& Gus) Kutchker. Her sisters & brothers in-law also pre-deceased her, who were Jim (Jean) Moran, Raymond (Emily) Moran, Edwin (“Biggie” & Marilyn) Moran, Joe (Joyce) Moran, Martin (Adelaide) Decker & Delores (Tootie) Moran.

She is survived by daughters; Lorri (Moran) Poe (& Scott) of Canton, CT., Lisa (Moran) Germano (& Darryl) of Pleasant Valley, NY, Grandchildren; Joshua Germano (& Laura) of Hyde Park, NY., Lauren Germano of Brooklyn, NY., Kelsey Poe (& J.J.) of East Hartford, CT., Taylor Poe of Canton, CT., & great granddaughter; Noelle Germano of Hyde Park. A brother in- law Robert Moran of Hyde Park and many nieces and nephews who loved her!

Jean loved music, playing piano, singing, gardening, reading, continuing her interest in the medical field, and her favorite place, Cape Cod. But above ALL else, she loved her family which she gave herself to 100%, whether we wanted it or not! She had a kind & giving heart who would do anything for us & was a caretaker her whole life to many, many patients. She was the most self-less person we knew. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore. She will be terribly missed, but know she will help us all out from above if she can. Rest in Peace now’ve earned it! We all love you~

They were a blessing to the care of Jean!

*Mom had originally requested *Donations be sent to the Poughkeepsie Children’s Home (Where she worked back in the ’70’s? ~Really pulled on her heart) if you want another option for donation.

We’d like to thank all who cared for her from Dutchess County Hospice-Poughkeepsie/Hyde Park team. You were so very much appreciated for all your very hard work for the care of our Mom and support for our family!

There are not words enough to thank the Sisters & staff at Rosary Hill Home of Hawthorne, NY. It is a very special place that cares for end of life cancer patients. We encourage you to go to their website to see what they are all about. What an incredible blessing this is to families in need of their loved one’s care. It’s quite an interesting story. It saved our family from a stressful situation & was such a gift! We were able to sleep at night knowing she was taken good care of. They all have “earned their wings”~ Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Jean and Dick were early settlers in the Gretna Hill area. We remember then with fondness - always cheerful, always ready to give a helping hand. Our sincere condolences to Laurie and Lisa and their families.
