Obituary for David E. Dudek

David E. Dudek entered into eternal life on October 9, 2020 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Massachusetts after a short battle with a scarcoma that invaded his body. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on February 27, 1955 to parents Rosemarie Becchetti-Rice and the late Erwin K. Dudek.
On May 8, 1977, David married the love of his life and soul mate Therese Fleming Dudek. Theirs was a true love story for 43 years. She survives at home in Hadley, Massachusetts.
David attended local schools and graduated Poughkeepsie High School in 1973 as a member of the National Honor Society. As a member of the school band, he was the lead trumpet player. David participated in playing on the football team and rowing on the crew team as a member. David graduated from Brown University in 1977 with a degree in financial management. At Brown, he continued to play his trumpet in the Brass Ensemble. He also rowed in the Intercollegiate crew races.
David was recruited by General Electric upon graduation and was employed in their Syracuse office until 1980 when he was transferred to their offices in Seattle, Washington. He received his MBA from Seattle University and left GE to accept a position at Starbucks Coffee where he became instrumental in the growth of the company.
Looking for another challenge, David moved back east and became a Professor of Business Management at the University of Massachusetts. He took great pride in the success of his students. He became an enthusiastic environmentalist and enjoyed cultivating an organic garden, producing an abundance of vegetables for their table. David and Theresa have been raising Welch Corgi dogs and their present Corgi, Owen led them down to a new path, participating in the AKC dog shows. David was delighted in the success that Owen achieved.
Participating in games with his family was a fun activity David took pleasure in, whether it was it was card or board games as well as outdoor games too. One particular event was an annual horseshoe pitching contest which he excelled in and was the perennial winner for many years including 2019! David always had a cheerful attitude and we will all miss this kind and thoughtful husband, son, brother, family relative and friend.
