Obituary for Carmela M. Sabia

Carmela Sabia, 92, peacefully passed away on November 23, 2021 at her home in Poughkeepsie, NY with her loving family by her side. Carmela, known affectionately as Lee, was born in Sicily, Italy on February 5, 1929 to the late Salvatore and Frances Arizzi. She is predeceased by her husband James Sabia and brother, Joseph Arizzi.
Lee leaves behind her beloved three sons: Jim Sabia and significant other Leslie Reddy, Dr. John Sabia and wife Mary Jo, Ray Sabia and wife Mary Sabia.
She loved her seven grandchildren dearly, never forgettting their birthdays, even in her nineties: Jessica (Sabia) Cole and husband Carter Cole, Jason Sabia and fiancée Kimberly Paine, Laura Sabia, John Paul Sabia and significant other Emma Thomas, Allison (Sabia) Hall and husband Ryan Hall, Matthew Sabia and wife Briana, Jimmy Sabia and significant other Ana Diaz.
She cherished her five great-grandchildren: Breyson and Finn Cole, Rhett and Ryder Hall and Mason Sabia.
Lee was a beautiful, generous, thoughtful mother, grandma and aunt to all. She will be fondly remembered for holidays on Vassar Road. You always got a homemade Italian dinner: meatballs and manicotti; cheesecake and honey bubbles. She taught her family members these beloved recipes to be passed down in her memory for years to come. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida, making lasting memories with friends and family, and you could always count on her to be having fun and winning big on the slot machines at Mohegan Sun. She was a bright light to us all and we were all her "sweethearts." She gave so much of herself to everyone in her life and was devoted to her family. All those who came in contact with her were truly blessed.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caregivers for the compassionate care of her: Yasmine, Bernice, June, Brenda, Jessica, Eva and Adrianna. You are all angels on this earth and Lee cherished you all.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 calling hours 3-7 PM at William G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 2 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 11 Clinton St. Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
