Anne Teresita Endy Pletcher (‘Terry’), 93, passed away March 3rd, 2021, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. A resident of The Landing, Terry was admitted to the hospital with Covid -19 pneumonia, but died peacefully in her sleep with her son Tom in attendance. Born in Germantown, Pa., she was the daughter of Kathleen Hogan and William Frederic Endy. A graduate of Lower Merion High School and Rosemont College, she majored in English (and never dangled a participle!). In 1950 she eloped and married the love of her life Henry “Bud” Pletcher in Stone Harbor, NJ., while he completed studies at the University of Notre Dame. In 1960 after Bud completed medical school in Philadelphia, the Pletchers moved to Poughkeepsie where Bud worked for over forty years as an OB-GYN.
Terry was an elegant homemaker, entertainer, and a consummate volunteer who used her time and talents wisely. At St. Mary’s Church, she was both a Eucharistic Minister as well as a lector; she was the longest serving volunteer at the St. Francis Hospital Gift Shop, and treasured her Monday afternoons there. In the early 80’s Terry and Bud combined efforts with their friend the late Jean Webster to create the Thomas J. Murphy Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society. Charity golf tournaments abound today, and Terry was thrilled to have been an honored guest at the Nancy Reagan White House for her efforts. In later years Terry was a volunteer ‘treatment’ driver for cancer patients needing transportation.
She was past president of the Poughkeepsie Garden Club; and both prize chairman and president of the Women’s Division at Dutchess Golf and Country Club. She served as a member of the then Vassar Brothers Women’s Auxiliary, and in various capacities at St. Francis Hospital Women’s Auxiliary as well.
Hobbies included a Woman’s Investment Group (much to the surprise of her husband when the first dividend came in!); several book clubs, and played competitive 18 holes of golf in her ‘flight’ until the closing of Dutchess in 2017.
She was an avid bridge player and partner, a die-hard fan of Jeopardy, General Hospital, the Republican Club, and consistently completed the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. Survivors include her sister Mary Kathleen Vistenzo, Cape May Court House, NJ.; her brothers Daniel G. Endy, Wayzata Mn.; William Frederic Endy, Jr., Easton Md.; and David Endy, Newtown Square, Pa.; her daughter Kathleen Healy (New Smyrna Beach, Fl,) son-in-law John; son Thomas A. Pletcher (Jupiter Fl.); granddaughters Mimi Raleigh, Suzanne Claxton, Melissa Healy Baker, Sarah Pletcher, Alexandra Pletcher and 7 great grandchildren:
Charlie Katherine, Teresita Helen (Tessa) Claxton; Liam and Kevin Trulsson; Sophie, Lyla and Jackson Baker.
She was predeceased by her husband Bud in 2015 and granddaughter Katherine (Kate) in 2009.
Funeral services will be held via Zoom at the convenience of the family.
In Terry’s memory, we ask that you perform a random act of kindness today.
